When To Plant Corn & Best Corn Companion Plant
By Sue Doenim
Planting corn in your garden too early in the growing season makes the corn susceptible to frost damage and corn borers. As a rule of thumb, plant corn after the Dogwood trees are in full bloom in your region. Pole beans are excellent garden companion plant for corn. The short variety of pole beans will grow up the corn stalks and will not need any other type of support. Soil, sun and watering needs of corn and pole beans closely match as well. The companion planting of corn and pole beans allows a gardener to grow twice as much in a single space.
