Tips For Using Reclaimed Wood Flooring
By Sue Doenim
Reclaimed wood flooring not only provides home owners with gorgeous wood flooring, it is recycling at it's finest. Reclaimed wood floors can go through many lifecycles, keeping our current trees intact and keeping the old wood flooring out of the landfills. If you are considering using reclaimed wood flooring, here are some tips to help you make the right choice. Check that the reclaimed wood flooring is certified by a reputable source. Find out where the reclaimed wood flooring came from and what type of building it was previously used in. Make sure the reclaimed wood flooring was not exposed to toxic chemicals and that it was never treated with lead paint. Ask the company that has the reclaimed wood flooring if they control the chain of custody for the reclaimed wood.. If the company controls the chain from raw material to finished flooring, they know exactly where the wood flooring has been and how it was used. Also ask the company about it's environmental policy to how 'green' they really are. While reclaimed wood flooring is highly coveted, you need to know where the reclaimed wood came from and what it was exposed to for your own health and well being.
