Tips For Pruning And Fertilizing Grape Vines By Sue Doenim Grape vines need to be pruned in March for the best grape production in summer. Prune each grape vine limb back so there is only one bud per limb. Make sure your pruning shears are sharp so your won't crush the grape vines when you prune them. Pruning will encourage new grape vine growth and more grape clusters. In April, fertilize your grape vines with any all-purpose garden fertilize. When the grapes have set, use a water soluble plant fertilizer at half the recommended rate to fertilize the grape vines with. Continue to fertilize this way every 2 days until 2 weeks prior to the grapes being ripe for harvesting.
