School Days: How To Get To Know Your Child’s Teacher

The new school year is in full swing and all parents want their children to do well in school. One way to help your child do well this school year ( and every year) is to get to know his teacher.
If your child’s school hosts an open house or something of that nature, be sure to attend it and introduce yourself to your child’s teacher. Be positive during the initial conversation, but not pushy. You want your child’s teacher to know that you are there to help and reinforce the learning process of the school year. Talk to your child’s teacher about what her objectives are for the school semester this year and how you can be involved as a parent in the educational process. Attend all parent-teacher conferences throughout the school year. You will one-on-one time with your child’s teacher and it will give you an opportunity to ask the teacher any questions that you may have. Attend all school events to show you are an involved parent and seek out your child’s teacher to say ‘hello’ to her. It will show your child’s teacher that you are an available, concerned parent and keep the door of communication open. Join in any parent group that your child’s school offers, both online groups and offline groups. You don’t want a stranger educating your child, get to know your child’s teacher and it will help your child to succeed in school.
