Plant Fall Garden Crops In August Or September By Sue Doenim As soon as your summer garden crops have finished producing, you need to remove the spent garden plants and do some garden cleanup and prep work. August and September are the months to plant fall garden crops, so now is the time to get the soil prepared. Clean up and garden debris and work in some compost or well rotted cow manure into the garden soil and plant your fall garden crops. After the garden soil is prepared, make shallow furrows in the soil for the garden seeds, water the furrows well, then plants your garden seeds. Cover with a very thin layer of soil and water the furrows every day to promote fast germination of the newly planted garden seeds. Be sure to rotate the fall crops and not plant the same garden vegetables in the same location. Spinach, collards, turnips, kale, lettuce and radishes are some perfect fall garden crops to get planted in August or September.
