Lump On Back Of Hand, Ganglion Cyst a.k.a Bible Bump By Sue Doenim A small round bumps on the back of a hand near the wrist is usually Ganglion cysts, also known as a Bible Bump. The bump is a little sac filled with gelatinous material and is usually painless and harmless. The exact cause of Ganglion cysts or Bible Bumps is unknown, but seem to afflict women more often than men and usually arise on the hand you use most often. Ganglion cysts are called Bible Bumps because in years past, the standard treatment for these bumps was to try to burst them by hitting them with the one book every household had, the hard-cover family Bible. Attempting to burst a Ganglion cyst at home is not recommended. If you have a cyst on the back of your hand that becomes painful or bothersome, a doctor can drain the fluid or remove the bump.
