Hummingbird Feeders, Do I Have To Make The Water Red?
By Sue Doenim
There was a time when it was thought that to attract hummingbirds, you had to add red food coloring to the water to make it red. That train of thought is outdated after the discovery of older food dyes containing toxins that harmed the hummingbirds. Today's hummingbird feeders have red and yellow colorings on them, which is enough color to attract the hummingbirds. You do not have to use food coloring or any other product to make the water red. Mix the sugar water solution for the hummingbird feeder by mixing one part sugar to four parts water. Hang the feeder and watch the hummingbirds drink heartily and safely from it. |
