How To Prune Junipers By Sue Doenim If the junipers are looking ragged or are becoming overgrown, selective pruning will get them shaped up and looking good again. Care and a light hand must be used when pruning junipers as the evergreen plant will not tolerate heavy pruning. Junipers can be tip pruned and thinned, but not pruned back to the large limbs. Prune away the tips, cutting off no more than six inches of each branch tip, to shape up the junipers. Prune and remove any old, dead foliage from underneath the evergreen plant to promote good air circulation and plant health. Clear out any debris that may be under the junipers to prevent insect infestation and mold growth.
