How To Plant A Rose Bush
By Sue Doenim
It is best to plant a rose bush while it is in it's dormant stage, or at least with minimal new budding showing. This gives the rose bush time to become accustomed to it's new home before it has to start producing new growth. Prepare the hole for your new rose bush by digging in twice as deep and twice as wide as the rose bush's roots. Work some organic matter, like compost, into the soil and place some of the soil in the bottom of the hole and form a cone shape of soil in the center of the hole. Center the rose bush on top of the cone shape mound of soil and spread out the roots of the rose bush over mound of soil. Back fill the hole to bottom stem junction of the rose bush and lightly firm the soil. Water in the well. Do not fertilize for the first two weeks after planting.
