How To Add Plants To Birdbath

Here's a neat way to add beauty to a plain birdbath and create a more natural environment for the birds so they will hang out at your birdbath longer. You will need a plastic flower pot bottom or similar container that is slightly smaller than the water basin of the birdbath. Place the flower pot bottom inside the birdbath and center it. Fill in the gap between the birdbath rim and the flower pot bottom (which needs to be at least 2 inches) with potting soil. Plant goldmoss sedum in the potting soil, or other low growing trailing vine. The goldmoss sedum will grow over the sides of the birdbath and hang down, creating an alluring natural environment for the birds and beautifying the birdbath. Water for the birdbath will go inside the flower pot bottom or whatever other container you have chosen to use.

I once made a bird bath with great enthusiasm but was terribly hurt and disappointed when over the course of several weeks, not a single bird deigned to use it.  So this may be just the thing.  One question though, how do I change the water? I assume taking the flower pot out will mess up the soil and the goldmoss.
