Holiday Dinners And Pet Care: Don't Share Your Food With Your Pet

Pets are a part of our family and we enjoy sharing a little bit of 'people' food with them on occasions. Holiday dinners are a time for overindulging for us, but it shouldn't be a time of us overindulging our pets with 'people' food, their digestive systems just can't handle it. At best, sharing your food with your pet at a Holiday dinner could mean an upset stomach for your pet and a mess for you to clean up. At worst, the Holiday dinner food could trigger a life threatening illness to your pet by causing inflammation in the intestine or pancreas. Any food that your pet is not used to eating, like the fatty, rich, spicy or sweet foods served at Holiday dinners will make your pet sick in some way. A small amount of lean meat is alright to add to your pet's food bowl as a special treat, but the fatty skin from a turkey or chicken is not a good idea to feed to your pet. Bones, gravy, spicy food or sweet desserts are other foods that should not be shared with your pet. It's tempting to share your Holiday dinner with your pet, but for their health, don't.
