Eye Problem Pterygium, Gray Spider Web Looking Tissue In White Of Eye
By Sue Doenim
Pterygium, pronounced tuh-RIDGE-ee-um, is a triangular growth of tissue that resembles a spider web and occurs in the white of the eye, either at the 3 o'clock position or the 9 o'clock position. The color of the Pterygium tissue is gray and it is a common eye problem for people who spend a lot of time in the sun. Those with Pterygium have the feeling that something is always in their eye. Pterygium is harmless, unless it extends to the cornea, then it will interfere with your vision and will need to be removed. You may have mistaken the eye problem Pterygium for just chronic bloodshot eyes, but if you have a suspected Pterygium, you should see your eye doctor for diagnosis and possible treatment.
