Benefits Of Running Backwards

Running backwards is unnatural and appears quite comical to onlookers but the benefits of running backwards are manifold. A person that has chronic heel pain and would like to run as a form of exercise can benefit from running backwards. During the backward running motion, the balls of the feet hit the ground instead of the heels. Those who experience knee or hip pain can still enjoy running when it's done backwards. Running backwards takes the stress off of the knee and hip joints. Even if you experience no type of pain with forward running, changing your routine by running backwards will present your muscles with a new challenge, and that by itself is a benefit. Running backwards work the front thigh muscle more than running forwards also, so if you want to build strong quadriceps, try running backwards.
