Adopting A Pet? Consider An Adult Dog Or Cat Instead Of A Puppy Or Kitten
By Sue Doenim
The puppy is so soft and playful and the kitten is tiny and cuddly. Hard to walk away from, I know. If you are thinking of adopting a new pet, do consider an adult dog or cat too. Consider the pros and cons of each group. While a puppy or kitten has the above listed qualities that make them desirable, they also have to be housebroken and trained, both of which takes time and patience, not too mention cleanup. An adult dog or cat is almost always housebroken and will have some degree of training already, especially if they have been raised in a private home. Rescue shelters that house unwanted pets usually have adult dogs and cats that are already trained. Even if you are looking for a specific breed of dog to adopt, there is probably a rescue group for that specific dog breed and will have an adult dog that will be perfect for your family. Adult dogs and cats will bond with you just as easily as a puppy or kitten will, either age group will require your time, attention, affection and working through behavior issues. There are certain personality traits to be mindful of when you adopt an adult dog or cat. Aggression and fear towards humans are two signs to be mindful when considering at an adult dog or cat.
